The VP Chatter: Thinking Outside of the Box

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 12:50:08 PM PDT

Ok...so here we are less than a week before Obama's coronation at the Democratic National Convention.  His VP pick should be named any day now, and the media and political junkies are waiting by their cell phones for the text message from the campaign with the announcement.  Will it be Biden, as all current "indications" tell us?  Or will Obama "go with his heart over his head" and pick Kaine?  Will he thumb his nose at many in his progressive base and go with Bayh?  Or will he thumb his nose at Hillary Clinton's "18 million voters" and name Sebelius?

I think (THINK) he's playing all of us and will go outside of the box...

The Case for Gore

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 12:18:40 PM PDT

Am I the only one who finds the short list (Bayh, Kaine, Biden) a bit underwhelming, given all the talent in the Democratic Party?  Why aren't we talking about VP picks who can really change the game?

I'm hoping the leaked list is just a head fake that the media has gleefully followed.  Meanwhile, the best VP choice is hiding in plain sight.  His name:  Al Gore.

How Hillary Lost

Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 09:49:26 PM PDT

The biggest upset this year wasn't the Giants beating the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl. No, it was a freshman senator from the South Side of Chicago who beat Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic primary. This is my take on why she lost.

What's up with this PUMA nonsense?

Wed Aug 13, 2008 at 05:54:11 PM PDT

I just heard three interviews of PUMA reps in a row. Granted, I've been watching FOX because I'm not really into the Olympics, but I heard at least one on POTUS radio which I usually find refreshingly balanced. For some reason, this Clintonian bullshit unhinges me. It's SO OBVIOUS what they're doing, it's for the most cynical and selfish reasons imaginable, but NOBODY WILL MENTION THAT THE EMPEROR WEARS NO CLOTHES. Why is that? Why have we allowed the Hillary-supporters to cow everyone down to the point where right-minded folks will allow the Clintons to act out their narcissistic psychodrama on the national stage (yet again)--all the while doing unquestionable damage to the party (and therefore, the country itself)--and not say BOO about it!

If you can take a Clinton rant, jump down in the mud with me.

The Case for Joe Biden: Veepstakes '08

Sun Aug 10, 2008 at 11:52:59 AM PDT

We all know what's on the line here and it is vital for us to take back the White House.  Another four years of Republican foreign policy and corporate welfare might just break the country to the point of being unrepairable.  This makes the VP choice all the more important to ensure that we can keep the debate focused on the economy, health care and education.  And this is exactly why we need Joe Biden.

Poll Vaulting....

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 06:37:04 AM PDT

It would be a safe bet to say that by now, most of us have had polling up to our eye teeth. You can get whiplash from looking at them from day to day. The worst of the bunch are the daily tracking polls which are as useful as tits on a bull. One must always remember that any poll is just a snapshot in time. Today's poll will never be like last week's nor will it be the same next week.

McCain, The Voyeur.

Sat Aug 02, 2008 at 11:31:43 AM PDT

McCain is standing in his hi rise building with a binocular, looking at Obama's apartment (campaign). What's his goal? paint Obama, a son of single mother, as arrogant. The irony is a son of an Admiral, paint a guy who grew up in difficulties as an elitist. Since McCain has to spend all his millions before sept. 2nd, expect more of this mischief.

With Friends Like These

Wed Jul 30, 2008 at 09:34:04 AM PDT

Why oh why oh why does Ludacris have to release this song?  Why doesn't he create something attacking McCain or better yet a song describing why he supports Obama?  How is this divisive song going to help heal the rift with Clinton supporters?

Time for Fireside Chats?

Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 11:27:22 AM PDT

Many of us were pleased and relieved to see American flags waving at the Berlin speech.  Why?  When Bush framed the world as being "either with us or against us," not only Europeans, but also Americans took sides.  This fear based, either or way of thinking has been fanned and fed for eight years, and if we underestimate it, or approach it with only derision and logic, we could lose.
We may need to go beyond railing against the MSM for not treating our message fairly and respectfully listen and talk with EVERYONE we see and know in our daily lives.  And, we may need to look at and learn from Hillary Clinton’s successful ability to reach out and regain Reagan-Democrats.  And, we need to stand beside and sincerely with rural and Appalachian America -- to face distrust, fear, hopelessness, and sometimes, hateful opinions -- to find common ground and shared interests.

PUMA's

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 08:54:36 AM PDT

Can someone tell me what the heck is going on with these PUMA's and what does PUMA stand for? I understand they are Hillary supporters & are trying to crash the DEM Convention & get her elected! Here is the article on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/...
preston.puma/index.html Will Bower, the goups leader is quoted at CNN saying:"I have never voted for anything but a Democrat, and I feel that there has been an internal coup, and they are putting forward a candidate that does not represent the will of the Democratic Party," Bower said."We have got a convention coming up and although everyone calls him the nominee, he is the presumed nominee," Bower said. "So we need to make sure Hillary gets her name in nomination and those delegates get a chance to vote, because I think there are a lot of delegates who will change their mind by the end of August and realize that Hillary Clinton is the truer Democrat." Your thoughts PLEASE!

Whither PUMA?

Sat Jul 19, 2008 at 12:43:05 PM PDT

You don't hear very much about PUMA (Party Unity My Ass) lately. As a "movement", it appears to be fizzling out. There's little or no media attention being paid to them, and like any failed movement they're increasingly turning inward. They now spend a good chunk of their time talking to themselves on obscure "blog radio" efforts. PUMA has turned into a little pity party club with no prospects for future growth.

I Gave Hillary $50 and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt

Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 08:29:35 PM PDT

Ok, I really didn't give Hillary $50. But if I did send her $50 as she requested via email today, I would have gotten a nifty shirt just like this one:

Pretty snazzy, huh? Nothing quite says, "Never quit, even when you're mathematically eliminated from the race and your continued attacks on your fellow Democrat increase the chances of John McCain becoming President and destroying the world as we know it", like one of these babies.

Obama & Hillary-The Difference

Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 09:45:32 AM PDT

I have been reading the recent entries about Obama about how the liberals are supposed to get his back and how it is of utmost (and only) importance to win back the White House etc. etc. And I think I might agree with one of them (the winning part) 100%. One think, though, stands out to me is the gradual thinning of line of difference between HRC and BHO.

Mixed Messages from the Bill Clinton Camp

Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 01:13:38 PM PDT

On Friday, Charlie Rose interviewed Adam Nagourney from the NYT and Clinton insider Paul Begala, who reacted to the Hillary/Barack rally in Unity, NH.

To my great pleasure and surprise, Begala was very charitable toward Obama and offered some hopeful predictions about the future cooperative behavior of the former president in a party no longer under his complete control.

The video of the show is not yet available, but you can follow the link here: Charlie Rose, 6/26/08.

McCains Hypocracy and Hillary's Hyperspending

Sat Jun 28, 2008 at 08:50:51 AM PDT

I saw Bud McFarlane (Reagan's National Security Advisor) on a cable network speaking about how Barak’s limited experience in world affairs was behind his strategy of speaking to nations such as Iran and N. Korea.  His conclusion was John McCain was the man with the experience and hardliner credentials to keep us safe by not speaking with these groups.

Are Hillary Supporters Really So Shortsighted?

Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 06:19:39 PM PDT

I was just watching CNN and heard some Hillary supporters in New Hampshire formed a democratic group to vote for McCain. Are they serious? It sounds like they want to cut off their nose to spite their face! I can understand being upset if your candidate didn't get the nomination, but to switch parties seems completely absurd.

I'm still not completely convinced that idea isn't just a Rethuglican conspiracy to make some Hillary supporters think there's actually such a movement. Who knows with all the spin these days eh? I watch the news quite a bit, but it doesn't take long for me to tire of the talking heads, whether for or against my beliefs.

I just know that it would be completely idiotic for me to believe McCain is different from Bush. Yea right! I mean, I once had some respect for him because of his military experience yadi yadi yadi, but really, that was when I didn't know much about politics anyway. I voted for Bush the first time because I was young, dumb and full of c...er thought he was a great guy. However, it didn't take long to see how much of an arrogant idiot he turned out to be.
