Shameless.

So I'm watching MSNBC to see if they do anything else on the Oklahoma grassfires. I was channel-flipping earlier, they had a live shot that they said was in southeast Oklahoma City, and I've got friends down there.
They cut from that to another story, then quickly to a live shot at the White House, of Bush's sabre-rattling about the FISA extension expiring today. I learned several years ago to tune him out when he starts in like this, but something caught my attention. It only went on maybe 5-10 minutes, but then I heard the roar of a jet. Now I live within walking distance of Tulsa International Airport so it almost didn't register, until it occurred to me that the roar was coming from the TV.
If I recall, White House airspace is highly restricted and fighter jets patrol it regularly. How truly convenient that a jet fly-over would just happen to coincide with some good old-fashioned fear-mongering on the part of this embarrassment of a President.
Here's how stupid our discourse is.

Duties I've recently taken on at work have me enduring talk radio which, in Tulsa, means right-wing radio. The morning show will run a quick-and-dirty teaser for Limbaugh's show at some point during the morning. Today his rant was on Hillary Clinton... as it usually is. I've never understood the obsession right-wingers have with that woman, even several years before her run for Prez, but I digress.
Pigboy started by blasting HRC for being too ambitious and power-hungry. Then, as though it was the same subject, he blasted her again for saying she would return powers amassed by the Executive Branch (and the Cheney Branch). Somehow she is both damned for wanting power and for wanting to give power up that the pill-popper thinks the President needs to prosecute the war on terror.
To recap: Rush Limbaugh says Hillary Clinton is both too ambitious and not ambitious enough, in the same breath, without the slightest hint of irony. No great surprise, but THIS is how stupid our discourse has gotten.
Is 7:30 in the morning too early for a drink? I think I need one.

Nine years ago today (maybe yesterday by the time you read this), a truck bomb exploded at the Alfred P. Murrah building in downtown Oklahoma City, killing 168 people including children at a day care facility in the building.
Lest we forget...

We received word today that a family friend was killed in action in Afghanistan. He was supposed to come back pretty soon. His wife is expecting a child any time now. This is the first person who I know personally who's been killed in combat.
I thought this might serve as a good reminder that, while the Caucuses and Primaries are a fun diversion, we shouldn't lose sight of the real goal. The steady stream of dead young men and women will NOT end while Bush still occupies the White House. We simply have to win.
Oklahoma Straw Poll
Tue Nov 11, 2003 at 07:31:37 PM PDT
Maybe it means something, maybe it means nothing, what the hell do I know? In the absence of any other Oklahoma polling that I can find, here are the results of the Tulsa County Democratic Party straw poll.
Everything is competitive.

Thinking about California and Bush's $200M warchest for the upcoming primaries and election, it occurred to me: there may be very few safe Democrat states.
Zell Miller breaks rank... in other news, the sky is blue...

In the absence of other diaries pointing to this story, and anything I've ever posted in open threads (at least on the old MT dKOS) has been ignored and forgotten, here you go.
CNN is reporting Zell Miller (D-traitor) will be supporting Bush in 2004. Go read the story... this sickens me.
