The Edwards Campaign is Depressing and We Can Do Better

Tue Nov 13, 2007 at 05:32:44 PM PDT

He is depressing because I have not met anyone who supports him.

He is depressing because his primary claim to nomination is recently developed rhetoric

He is depressing because his voting record has little in common with his current positions

He is depressing because she will do whatever it takes to win (to include spout spin about why he's taking public financing)

Edwards: Only a "hero" if you give $$?

Mon Nov 05, 2007 at 01:58:03 PM PDT

I'm on the e-mail lists for all the major candidates, noted today that the Edwards campaign sent out a request for money and said that if people send in $15, they can upload pictures that will go into a Heroes of One America mosaic.

Edwards e-mail in questionable taste?

Mon Apr 16, 2007 at 07:29:14 PM PDT

Let me first say that I have no strong feelings about any of the Democratic candidates.

It was something of a surprise to check my Gmail and see a note from "John and Elizabeth Edwards" regarding today's tragedy at Virginia Tech.

Campaigning in Saudi Arabia!

Sun Jan 30, 2005 at 10:30:22 PM PDT

(As one who has lived there, this strikes me as heartening and being handled intelligently. As a Saudi once said, the last thing the Western world wants right now is complete democracy here. It would be Taliban II)

It is questionable that these elections will bring about real change real quickly, but they seem a small step forward.

Beyond that, we're generally political animals so I thought people might like a look at approaches to political campaigning in a place where it's new, in a place one wouldn't necessarily expect to find it. Candidate Web sites are common. Can Daily al Kos be far away?

Views from a former Christian conservative.

Sat Nov 06, 2004 at 11:04:21 PM PDT

Update [2004-11-8 0:36:59 by rghojai]: The original and the person's site can be found here

No, it ain't me, though I have spent some time around these folks and feel like this woman has a whole lot to say. This is long, but worth reading. I don't know if this is appropriate or not, but I have done a c&p from her blog....

I get very antsy when I see this entire election outcome being blamed on radical conservatism or on ignorance or stupidity.

Because really when people talk about "radical" conservativism, what they really mean is Southern conservativism, specifically the kind that originated in the Southern Baptist church in the late 70's/early 80's.  And that makes me unhappy.

swift roaches for truth! see the site!

It's down and dirty, will be improved, but can we stand for Delay's drivel? No, I say, No.

Rather than simply express our displeasure, dismay and astonishment at DeLay saying DailyKos is a site that supports insurgents in Iraq, why not have a little bit of fun with it, too?!

For a wee modicum of mirth in these times:

Debka: U.S. Diplomat Killed in Iraq

Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 06:39:30 AM PDT

As you might know, Debka.com is a kinda sorta Middle East Drudgereport (they're not real impressed w. the Palestinians or those who support them), but they have their share of stuff that's ultimately shown to be correct. They were ahead of the game w. recent stories about Arafat apparently needing surgery.

I took a quick look around for confirmation of this, but didn't see anything.

"US diplomat Ed Seitz, Assistant Regional Security Officer, was killed in mortar attack on Camp Victory near Baghdad airport. One US soldier injured. Diplomat's death was announced by Colin Powell."

Released Gitmo detainees join fight

Fri Oct 22, 2004 at 01:06:02 AM PDT

From the L.A. Times

WASHINGTON -- At least eight inmates released from detention at the U.S. military base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have returned to the battlefield against U.S. and coalition troops in Afghanistan and Pakistan, prompting complaints inside the Pentagon that international pressure had undermined the U.S. effort to fight Islamic fundamentalism.

[Note who is blamed for this. Heaven forbid anyone involved could have made a mistake.]

Some who have worked on detainee policy issues contend that these cases could be evidence of flaws in how the military assesses the potential threat of individual detainees.

"It raises questions about the screening process," said Mark Jacobson, who was a special assistant for detainee policy at the Pentagon until September 2003.

Supreme Court: Provisional ballots in wrong precinct don't count

By DAVID ROYSE
Associated Press Writer

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- People who cast a provisional ballot at the wrong precinct aren't entitled to have their votes counted, the state Supreme Court unanimously ruled Monday, rejecting an argument by labor unions that the rule wrongly disenfranchises voters.

The court said the law clearly states that provisional ballots must be counted only if the person was entitled to vote "at the precinct," and that the constitution gives the Legislature the authority to dictate voting rules.

U.S. gov't reports Bush admin. atrocious on human rights

Sun Oct 10, 2004 at 08:30:18 PM PDT

Remarkably (?) the U.S. government relates that the Bush administration has "failed to exhibit leadership or define a clear focus, relegating civil rights to a low priority."
