The Red Sox Effect

Ok, this is a little silly, I'll readily admit. However, a conversation my wife had the other day with a Red Sox fan, while canvassing, started this line of thinking.
My wife is working for Grassroots Campaigns, standing on the streets of NYC in a DNC t-shirt asking folks if they'd like to "help elect John Kerry." She gets responses from people saying "Fuck you", "you should be ashamed of yourself", "keep up the good work", etc.
Suggestion to Edwards for his intro blurb at Debate

Since Cheney thinks he is so funny when he jokes about Edwards' good looks (in comparison to his own death-like coutenance), how about the good Senator from NC throw it right back at him Tuesday night. I'm thinking something like , "I'd like to thank the people of Cleveland firstly for their ... yada yada ... and finally, I'd like to specifically thank my opponent, Vice President Cheney, for paying more attention to my hair and face than my wife has in the past few months."
Cheesy ... yes, risky ... a little, but I think it would be funny as hell. And probably the only way to make that ol' bastard blush would be to politely and humorously insinuate that he, "you know, likes John Edwards ... like more than a friend."
Thoughts and variations on the phrasing anyone??
